TEDxPerth

TEDxPerth is run by Youth Tree, a youth-run organisation that uses creativity and fun to involve young people in volunteering and active citizenship. We are working towards a world where volunteering and active citizenship are as mainstream as cheeseburgers and breathing.
TEDxPerth is Perth's premier idea-sharing event for youth and youthful thinkers who want to effect positive change. We watch incredible, inspiring talks from TED.com (it's like Youtube for people who think) on topics ranging from re-growing rainforests to bringing creativity into our education systems. It's the world's greatest thinkers, speakers, doers and creators speaking so we're generally riveted by what they have to say. During break-out sessions 28 year-old oil and gas workers debate approaches to tackling climate change with 18 year-old environmental science students (and they don't punch each other). NGOs share opportunities for young people to get involved in local volunteering from tree-planting to advocating for human rights. Amazing, diverse and delicious food appears because everyone brings something different and we share. And we of course get to play around like children on cordial in Scitech for free.
And now, on November the 30th, the last TEDxPerth for the year, we are trying something different. A range of Perth-based NGOs will bring real problems they are facing to the evening. Propelled by the incredible videos we watch, we will unlock the creative potential of the sixty people in the room to find collaborative, innovative and unique solutions to these problems that will allow NGOs to more effectively improve the world. We young participants will engage with the non-profits' causes by actively working to bring a fresh perspective to the issues they are working on.
Too often conferences and discussions barely scratch the surface of their participants' creative abilities. We aim to change all that. Be there on November the 30th and be part of a unique experiment to bring about innovative positive change.

About TED
TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TED Prize.
