Propel celebrates the achievements of creative young Western Australians

Create! Propel Youth Arts Award category returns for WA Youth Awards 2011.

Applications are now open for the Create! Propel Youth Arts WA Award. The Create! Award, recognises the significant
contribution made by young people to the community across a range of artforms including drama, music, visual arts, writing, debating and arts management. Entries close on Friday 18 February 2011 and the winners will be announced at the WA Youth Awards gala ceremony on Saturday 9 April 2011 at the conclusion of National Youth Week 2011.

The WA Youth Awards were established in 1999 to recognise the outstanding community achievements and contributions of young Western Australians aged 12 – 25 years. The awards also recognise outstanding youth groups and organisations that support young people.

Winners in each category will receive a $2,000 cash prize and are presented with a trophy designed by local artist Samantha Lee.

Monique Douglas, Propel Youth Arts WA’s Executive Director, said the Create! Award recognises the importance of engaging young people in the arts and acknowledges the contributions young creatives are making to their communities.

“Last year’s Create! Propel Youth Arts Award winner, Jeremiah Wordsworth, was also the WA Young Person of the Year. Acknowledgement of the arts in such a positive way is fantastic news for the creative community and can only encourage more young people to get involved and make a difference”, she said.

“Propel is excited to be a part of the WA Youth Awards 2011. We strongly encourage the community to nominate and acknowledge the achievements of creative young people.” Propel Youth Arts WA is the peak body for youth arts in Western Australia, dedicated to creating opportunities for young people to engage in the world of art.
