CSR Project: Touring Exhibition
The Project will culminate in a touring exhibition of painting, new media, sculpture, and fibre arts while documenting multiple perspectives of countries surrounding the Canning Stock Route in Western Australia’s Western Desert region. Audiences will be able to see through the eyes of emerging and established artists and traditional land owners from the nine collaborating arts and cultural organisations.

Currently in development, the exhibition will be curated by eminent Aboriginal art curator Wally Caruana and the three young curators from the Emerging Indigenous Curators Program. Hailing from traditional backgrounds, the curators Murungkurr Terry Murray (Mangkaja Arts), Hayley Atkins (Martumili Artists) and Louise Mengil (Waringarri Artists) bring an invaluable cultural awareness to the curation of the Project, which spans multiple language groups interlinked by a shared Law and intricate family connections.
This groundbreaking and celebratory show will tour to key Australian destinations. With a launch planned for 2010, the artwork and stories generated by the CSR Project will give national and international exposure, highlighting the richness of Aboriginal culture, the innovative and stunning artworks and the unique roles of the communities and art centres in Australia’s history and contemporary identity.
19 Works to Beijing Olympics: August 8-18, 2008
The Emerging Curators with Wally’s guidance have selected a ‘boutique showcase’ of 19 works to be launched in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics. BHP Billiton Iron Ore is the CSR Project’s founding and major sponsor, who has chosen the Project to represent their respective industry as the only Australian cultural content at the International Olympic Committee Expo. This is an amazing platform for building a global profile for the nine community art centres and sends a tremendous message of BHP Billiton’s investment and support to the communities across the regions.
Congratulations to the following 28 artists from the 9 art centres for their individual and collaborative representation:
