MADE IN MIDLAND
August 25 to October 14, 2006, FORM Gallery.
Made in Midland showcased the results of one of FORM’s Designing Futures projects, aimed at assisting the business and artistic development of a cluster of seven fine-wood designers in the Midland region. Made in Midland exhibited the designers’ completed works and innovative new directions of their careers, as well as placing a spotlight on their role at the heart of the Midland redevelopment project and the Midland Atelier creativity and innovation enclave.
Made in Midland participating designers:
Scott Maloney, Stuart Williams, Malcolm Harris, Peter Vitalich, Philip Fry, Tim Whiteman and Tim Leaversuch.
These designers created new ranges of contemporary furniture and products, expressive of their fine craft skills and a refined aesthetic.
The exhibition and catalogue, which displayed the works in the heritage context in which they were developed, were received with much enthusiasm and positive feedback. The exhibition also attracted considerable national media attention.
The work developed and exhibited in Made in Midland set a new benchmark and alternative approach for Western Australian fine wood and furniture design.
