Plans for the West End Development

West End Programming:

Through the partnership between FORM and BHP Billiton Iron Ore, a continuous program of West End upgrades is being undertaken. The gradual consistent transformation of the streets, public spaces and incidental places to pause, to meet and to celebrate, is creating a precinct that offers a people-orientated urban environment that also reflects the sophistication of the region’s workforce. The West End precinct is being transformed into a green, attractive environment that is pushing towards the development of an evening economy that makes the most of the interesting coastal environment and beautiful evenings associated with the local climate.

Ideally, FORM envisions a discrete zone within the precinct that will be technologically enabled with the provision of adequate broadband/wireless technology to encourage connectivity within the public spaces.

As part of the West End development the FORM/BHP Billiton Iron Ore partnership is also initiating cultural programming that will challenge, entertain and educate the community. Cultural diversity is finding expression through a range of public events initiated through FORM’s programming at the Courthouse Gallery (also situated within this historic precinct), such as festivals, exhibitions, public art and visual/childhood literacy in its many forms.

To ensure the Pilbara is thinking ‘knowledge economy’ one of FORM’s long term objectives is to foster a culture of learning with the appropriate investment in education and training. Learning regions stimulate technological progress, create knowledge and create suitable conditions for economic and social progress. This particular area within Port Hedland could stimulate the growth of creative micro businesses; entrepreneurial activity that could stimulate growth and activation within the area.
